The Orthodox Chamber Choir was founded in 1995. The 25 singers of the choir come together from different parts of Finland to give concerts and to sing in the divine services of the Orthodox Church. The singers include professional musicians, students as well as enthusiasts of Orthodox church music. The repertoire of the choir mainly consists of Slavic and Finnish Orthodox church music from the 19th to the 21st century.
The Orthodox Chamber Choir has been conducted from the beginning by dir. cant. Juhani Matsi. He graduated from the three-year cantors’ course of the Orthodox Seminary of Kuopio (Finland) in 1977. After graduation, he has worked as a cantor in several parishes of the Finnish Orthodox Church. He has also continued to develop his proficiency in choir conducting and vocal technique. Between years 2008-2011, Juhani Matsi is employed by the Finnish Orthodox Church as the redactor of church music publications.
